Proud to Be an American

My first subject is about the American flag flying in Haiti. I forwarded this political cartoon to some friends. One of my liberal friends emailed me back with this article which describes Obama ordering the flag taken down from the airport out of respect to Haiti's prime minister who thought the flag made it look like they were taking over the airport rather than just something that he (Obama) decided. (Read the whole article here:
http://www.navytimes.com/news/2010/03/ap_haiti_flag_031510/.)
My response to that was, "Well, then why didn't they take it down and put it up somewhere else?" All these other countries who are there giving aid haven't taken their flags down. I mean, who really thinks that we are there as some occupying force? Everyone knows that we are giving millions of dollars in aid to help these people because we care about them. (I guess unless you're some delusional liberal. And let's face it, there are plenty of them out there.)

So let's say the U.S. suffered some horrible disaster and we needed help from the rest of the world. And let's say Japan was one of the countries who came to our rescue. If I saw their flag flying at the nation's airport I wouldn't think, "Oh my gosh, Japan's flag is up at the airport! I think they are going to try and bomb us again!!!!!" Instead, I would see that flag flying and think, "Wow, I'm so glad I can see their flag so I can remember the help they are giving us in our time of need." And if the president of our country told them the flag looked like it meant they were taking over the airport or the country, I would say, "Screw the president. You're here helping us, leave the flag where it is." Or I'd at least say, "Okay, so take it down from the airport and find some other nice place where lots of people can see it to fly it." I would bet that the Haitian people are pretty humble and grateful for what the U.S. and other countries are doing to help them and probably aren't offended by our flag being there.

  1. I think there is a lot more behind that political cartoon you have posted. There's much more than just a story about taking the U.S. flag down in Haiti. It's all about the way Obama feels that he has to apologize for the U.S. It's the way he has to bow to evil dignitaries from other countries. It's the way he wants to befriend those leaders from countries who are in direct opposition to everything the U.S. is/should stand for. It's the way he could care less about the people of our great nation. It's the way he is trying to shove Marxism/socialism down our throats. It's the kind of anti-American people he surrounds himself with. His actions speak so loud we can't hear a word he's reading from the teleprompter!

  2. You can still fly the American Flag. Does flying the American flag on Memorial Day mean that everyone is in the middle of occupying a territory? Obama is an idiot!
And as for respecting people, what about the American people? What does Obama plan on doing with us - making us slaves to other countries? Are we supposed to bow down to him or something, the almighty Pharaoh Obama?

  3. I would say that if you have a reason to explain why you took the flag down then you can keep some people happy. It would be better to do what is right and fly the flag. Some people might be unhappy but it doesn't matter in this case.

  4. I had to read the article to see where the flag was flying in the first place. I don't think it's appropriate for other countries to fly their flags anywhere but their embassies and military bases, in my opinion. But since this seemed to be our base, I can agree that it was unfair to ask just us to take ours down. I don't agree with the apology tour and acts like this from our President, but I personally don't think it's a bad thing to honor a simple request from another country. Especially when we are just there for humanitarian aid.
